Healing herbs for liver and kidneys
Bhumyamalaki (Phyllanthus niruri)
This shrub is known for its very bitter taste and is called “the amalaki of the earth”. In recent decades, bhumyamalaki has come into the spotlight and caught the attention of scientists worldwide, thanks to its ability to protect the liver. It is an excellent agent for liver health. In Ayurveda, its action is described as ‘Yakrduttejaka’, which means it strengthens the function of the liver. Bhumyamalaki is antiviral, liver protective and promotes bile flow. It also works as a general restorative tonic.
Katuki (Picrorrhiza kurroa)
In Sanskrit, Katuki means ‘bitter’. In Ayurveda, Katuki has been known for its medicinal properties for over 5000 years. Katuki protects the liver. It not only purifies the liver, but also strengthens liver tissue and promotes tissue regeneration. Katuki increases metabolism and strengthens the immune system. Katuki is also known as a ‘herbal antibiotic’.
Punarnava
Punarnava means renewal of the body. Punarnava is one of the most powerful herbs that contribute to general health and well-being. Punarnava is a liver tonic. It helps the liver to regain its strength. It is helpful in weaning from alcohol. It is anti-inflammatory and has properties that reduce swelling.
